You Should Have Seen Us

The first local screening of a film-poem by Ripon poet Paul Mills, using photographs and film from the Yorkshire Film Archive of  life in Ripon, Harrogate, Sheffield, Settle and Scarborough from the 1930s to the 1960s.

Poetry and Sanctuary

In an age of exile, emigration and displacement, what happens to poets who must leave their native languages behind? And what happens to a language that loses its poets? An afternoon of poetry about identity and exile with Syrian poets Amir Darwish and Alaa Saloum. Organised with the Ripon City of Sanctuary group.

Joking Aside: Poetry workshop with Kate Fox

An opportunity to work with legendary stand-up poet and performer Kate Fox (‘funny, quirky and a wonderful writer’ – Sarah Millican).

Learn how to write comic poetry, where to find a punchline and when to stop trying to be funny. It only hurts when you laugh.

Ripon Yarns

Local poets Elizabeth Spearman,

David McAndrew and Andy Croft announce the winners of the festival poetry competition and launch the festival anthology (everyone who has a poem in the book will receive a free copy). The MC for the evening is Kate Fox, who will no doubt read a few hilarious poems of her own.
